Today is Friday the 13th – a scary day for some.
I was born on the 13th and in 2026 my birthday will be on Friday the 13th – I can’t wait.
13 is my lucky number you see, purely for the fact that when I was a kid I would rebel against everything, so picking a number that everyone else disliked seemed like the obvious choice.
We all have numbers that hold special meaning to us, causing us to place greater emphasis on them than others. When we encounter these numbers, we might interpret them as signs or omens.
For instance, some people feel lucky when they see 777, while others might feel uneasy at the sight of 666. But in reality, this is just our pattern-seeking brains paying extra attention.
It’s similar to how we might suddenly notice red cars everywhere after deciding we want to buy one – not because there are more red cars, but because we’re now attuned to them.
This tendency to fixate goes far beyond numbers, influencing other areas of our lives. Just as we might obsess over seeing our “lucky” or “unlucky” numbers, we often hyper-focus on certain events, thoughts, or outcomes.
This fixation can drive us to achieve goals or fuel our passions, but negative fixation can send us into a downward spiral.
For instance, constantly worrying about potential failures might lead us to hesitate, second-guess ourselves, or miss opportunities – inadvertently increasing the likelihood of the very outcome we fear.
Remember – The most likely outcome is the one you think about the most.
In Hamlet, Shakespeare wrote – “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”
Next time you attach a negative perspective on something – take a step back and question your outlook on it.
Happy Friday the 13th for those that celebrate! 🎉
